Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, is located in the center of the Chengdu Plain, or Tian Fu Zhi Guo, which literally means, “country of heaven,” a reference to the region’s breathtaking beauty. The city, with more than 4,500 years of civilization, is known throughout China as “China's Best Tourist City.”

Chengdu has a reputation as a city of leisure featuring beautiful natural scenery, authentic teahouses, world-famous spicy Sichuan Food, and delicious snacks and spirits. One of Chengdu's specialities is the hot pot (huokuo) which has a long history as one of the most popular and traditional hot pots in China. It originated in the north, where people have to fend off the chill early in the year. It spread to the south during the Tang dynasty (A.D. 618-906). So be sure to remind your clients to eat hot pot once they arrive in Chengdu.

Chengdu also is renowned as the “home of the panda.” You can view pandas’ habitat by strolling through tranquil bamboo groves at Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Center, the only such center in the world and the best place to view the national treasure of China.
